On view at Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town, South Africa through October 17, 2021, « KASSARAM » is an open studio examination by Thania Petersen as part of Zeitz MOCAA’s studio residency program.
The exhibition « KASSARAM » involves a large, awkward or messy situation that investigates the procedures used to create and maintain social partitions among minorities through art from expansionism to the present.
« KASSARAM », this appropriate method to describe the open and experimental nature of the studio space in which Thania Petersen works at Zeitz MOCAA. Cape Town-based multidisciplinary artist Thania Petersen uses photography and installation to address the complexities of her personality in contemporary South Africa.
Thania Petersen will occupy « L’Atelier », this trial and residency stage for Cape Town-based artists. It is a multiple exhibition space located on the first floor of the center, which gives occupants the opportunity to use the gallery as a studio, to create new work, conduct research and reflect on future projects.
By revealing creative methods and cycles that are typically private, « L’Atelier » gives guests of the historic space special access and knowledge. This gives artists the opportunity to reflect on their work in a public climate and to cooperate with various guests and networks in open projects.
The exhibition « KASSARAM » is open at Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town, South Africa until October 17, 2021.
