Until September 21, Amasaka gallery is pleased to invite you to discover the captivating exhibition by the duo Tibeb Sirak and Birhanu Manaye. Entitled “Patterns Through Life”, this immersive presentation plunges you into a world rich in patterns and textures, where the two contemporary artists explore the diversity of shapes and designs. Beyond visual appeal, their work questions the impact of textures on human experience, memory and the subconscious.
“Thought patterns, the recurring ways in which we think, exert a profound influence on our daily lives. They shape our perceptions, our emotions, our actions and, ultimately, the course of our lives. From the way we interpret experiences to the way we interact with others, our thoughts act as filters and drivers, shaping our emotional well-being and relationships. The impact of collective consciousness, the beliefs and values shared by a group, adds another layer to this influence through cultural norms, social trends and shared values,” says Ethiopian artist Birhanu Manaye.
Born in Addis Ababa in 1998, Birhanu Manaye’s art explores the deep links that bind existence together, drawing inspiration from the invisible forces that shape human consciousness and the natural world. He reveals this hidden dimension, both astonishing and dazzling, by creating a subtle harmony between shapes, colors and elemental figures. The Ethiopian artist chooses silkscreen and acrylic to bring to life canvases that are both beautiful and expressive, inviting the viewer to a silent meditation on the intricate patterns that weave the thread of life.
In an equally evocative artistic approach, Tibeb Sirak joins his colleague in favoring woodcut and acrylic to highlight the impact of patterns on our daily lives. Through his work, he celebrates the profound symbiosis between humanity and nature, rediscovering cultural heritage and human experience beyond the boundaries of time. Also originally from Ethiopia, Tibeb Sirak draws his inspiration from both Ethiopian and Somali culture, bringing out notions of unity and cultural resonance in his creations. Through a range of harmonious textures, vibrant colors and recurring forms, he offers works that pay homage to the diversity and beauty of the cycle of life, while providing a visual narrative of cultural heritage and shared experiences.
The “Patterns Through Life” exhibition epitomizes the artistic vision of the Tibeb Sirak and Birhanu Manaye duo, offering a fresh take on design. Much more than a simple stylistic choice, their works present patterns as profound thematic elements that shape our daily lives. Through “Patterns Through Life“, motifs are revealed in a new light, sublimated by the creativity of Ethiopian artists, forming repetitive sequences of behavior, feelings and thoughts. Tibeb Sirak and Birhanu Manaye invite the public to adopt an innovative perspective on the aesthetics and depth of design, highlighting the importance of these recurring elements in our existence and their role in our personal evolution and trials.
The works presented in “Patterns Through Life” become veritable visual narratives, prompting reflection and awareness of the patterns that govern our existence. Through their art, Birhanu Manaye and Tibeb Sirak engage in a profound exploration of plurality, identity and the uninterrupted cycle of life. While Birhanu Manaye immerses herself in the richness and spirituality of nature, Tibeb Sirak focuses on the richness of cultural heritage, weaving together universal motifs and repetitions. Together, they plunge the viewer into a quest for meaning about how these patterns influence our identity and relationships, while reflecting on the beauty that emerges from this dynamic, uniting dreams and the resilience of the human soul.
