At the heart of Berlin’s Project Space Schering Stiftung, Tabita Rezaire and Yussef Agbo-Ola transport us into a new artistic experience entitled “OMI LIBATIONS“. Running until July 7, this immersive exhibition invites us to explore the depths of water, source of life and sacred element for the Yoruba people of West Africa.
The exhibition’s central work is OMI: Yemoja Temple, an immersive structure designed by the artists in collaboration with Olaniyi Studio. Dedicated to Yemoja, the Yoruba divinity of rivers, oceans and marine life, this temple invites us to a deep connection with this aquatic universe.
Inspired by a research trip to Tanzania, Tabita Rezaire and Yussef Agbo-Ola, along with scientists Alex Jordan and Anja Wegner, studied the local aquatic fauna, from fish to corals to micro-organisms. They transpose their findings into the exhibition, creating a dialogue between science and art.
The “OMI LIBATIONS” installation is more than just visual. From textile elements knitted by Olaniyi Studio, to indigo blue hues evoking ancestral Nigerian techniques, to soothing sounds of ritual chants and scientific reflections, all the senses are engaged to create a total immersive experience. Inside the temple, offerings of flowers and honey are made in homage to Yemoja. This spiritual dimension invites contemplation and connection with the beliefs of the Yoruba people.
“OMI LIBATIONS” is more than just an art exhibition. It’s an experiential space that blends scientific research, spiritual ritual and ecological reflection. An invitation to take a fresh look at water, source of life and essential element of our planet.
