Prince Claus is launching a vibrant appeal to all artists wishing to contribute to building a fairer world for all. Through the Moving Narratives program, in partnership with the British Council, the aim is to support creative practices aimed at deconstructing stereotypes and shaping an equitable and promising future. Whether you’re an artist or cultural practitioner, using art to give voice to marginalized narratives or to question contemporary narratives, Moving Narratives Cycle 2 opens up as a unique opportunity to enrich and refine your creative approach.
Since its launch last year, Moving Narratives has brought together 12 mid-career, socially and politically engaged artists and practitioners with a variety of thematic and technical approaches. Supervised by four experts, participants are encouraged to experiment, exchange and develop artistic strategies together that address dominant discourses and the inequalities they underpin.
For its second cycle, Moving Narratives invites participants to explore the global theme in innovative ways. By revisiting historical legacies and delving into emancipatory movements, participants are encouraged to question the one-sided visions that profoundly impact our society, politics and everyday life, creating fertile ground for social inequalities. Art, as a vehicle for innovation and change, could play a key role in revising social, cultural and historical perspectives. Artists and practitioners are thus invited to explore nuanced angles that reveal social and political entanglements, inviting the world to broaden its understanding of the past and reimagine its future.
Cycle 2 of Moving Narratives will unfold through workshops, reading groups, conferences and peer review sessions, fostering exchanges and collaborations within the cohort. Participants will benefit from invaluable advice from mentors to perfect their creative technique, while taking part in online and face-to-face Lab Weeks for intensive mentoring sessions over six days. A collective project, resulting from the contributions of all participants, will then be produced in the form of a printed publication and an online platform. Each artist and practitioner will be awarded a grant of €10,000 to support the development of their project or the work described in their application, in a spirit of encouragement and ongoing commitment.
