The art world is witnessing an increasing emergence of talented artists in contemporary African art. Reda Boudina is one of these outstanding young artists who are making a steady contribution to this section of contemporary culture.

Born in Meknes in 1995, Moroccan artist Reda Boudina, also known as RDS, lives and works in Rabat. Since entering the art world in 2010, he has been signing his frescoes under this pseudonym. It was also at this time that he decided to take Applied Arts as an option for his baccalauréat. Subsequently, Reda Boudina pursued his artistic path by studying for the Brevet de Technicien Supérieur en Art et Industrie Graphique in preparatory classes, before joining the Institut National des Beaux-Arts de Tétouan (INBAT), where he graduated in 2019.

As a fan of street art frescoes, Reda Boudina draws inspiration for his work from this unique artistic movement. This Moroccan artist began his career on the street, on the walls next to railroad tracks, oscillating between design and graffiti as the basis for the creation of his murals. Reda Boudina presents himself as a true artistic architect, appropriating graphic forms to reinterpret them according to his expressive needs. Through his work, the artist invites us to explore and reflect on urban modernity in Morocco.

Reda Boudina’s works are all the more authentic thanks to the materials and techniques used in their conception. Acrylics, spray paint on canvas, silkscreen on recycled paper, wooden furniture, velvet and metal fabric, mixed media on paper, fabric prints, carpets, foam and tiles are just some of the elements and techniques used by the artist to create ever more immersive and expressive works. To add a touch of uniqueness to his work, he also explores Wild Style, a constantly evolving technique aimed at designing a 3D typography all his own.

Reda Boudina is attracted by the connotation of modernity that emanates from post-colonial Morocco’s booming economy, although its influence remains little apparent for the time being. Through his artistic work, Reda Boudina invites viewers to discover this modern, urban era of the country, thanks to his unique artistic perception.
