The Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac Museum, located in the heart of Paris, is an emblematic place of the extra-European culture. The Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac Museum has a collection of more than 370,000 objects, a considerable collection of graphic arts and a collection of more than 710,000 old and contemporary photographs.
Since 2008, the Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac Museum Photography Prize has been awarded annually to three photographers selected for their original projects and artistic trajectory.
The financial support program is not limited to documentary practice and is open to broader forms of image production. Since its creation, this support has helped to reveal numerous talents and to make French public collections more open to the whole world and its current creation.
The Prize for Photography is open exclusively to individual or collective photographers from one of the four continents represented in the musée du quai Branly’s collections: Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania (excluding Europe). European citizens with dual non-European nationality are also eligible.
The project proposed by the candidate must develop a specific aspect of his or her personal artistic research and not be limited to the documentary field. It must allow the candidate to carry out all or part of a project that is a continuation of his/her current production.
The winners of the Prize for Photography receive funding for their creation as well as for the final production of a selection of images from their work, which will then become part of the museum’s collection. The photographs will be digitized in very high definition and cannot be released to the public until they enter the museum’s collections.
In addition to participating in the creation of a substantial collection, the selected artists will also have the opportunity to produce a multimedia program explaining their artistic approach and fieldwork.
So, if you are a photographic artist from one of the four continents represented in the museum’s collections, don’t hesitate to participate in the Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac Museum Photography Prize. You will have the opportunity to make your work known and to contribute to a reference collection on international contemporary creation.
