The eighth edition of the Hamburg Photography Triennial, which will be held from May 20 to September 18, 2022, will focus on the theme of “money” in order to provoke reflection on photography’s contemporary power to convey and associate significance across distance.
The extension of this monetary term to art and visual culture directs a multi-party engagement with photography and its relationship to value creation, group creation, access, flow and knowledge creation.
Artistic Director Koyo Kouoh leads a curatorial group consisting of Oluremi C. Onabanjo, Gabriella Beckhurst Feijoo, and Rasha Salti, with Cale Garrido as curatorial facilitator.
The main movement of the program was Lucid Knowledge, a global conference held from September 30 to October 2, 2021.
Since May 2022, the Hamburg Photography Triennial has focused on visiting exhibitions in Hamburg’s historic centers and important foundations until September 18, 2022.
The week of celebration will also be marked by the launch of Triennial Expanded, a stage dedicated to Hamburg’s photography scene, which offers exchanges and experiences throughout the city.
The Triennial program is supported by numerous compositional and dissemination projects in print and on the web.
The organizations associated with this edition are the Bucerius Kunst Forum, the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the Jenisch Haus, the Museum der Arbeit, the Kunsthaus Hamburg, the Kunstverein in Hamburg, the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte, the Deichtorhallen Hamburg with the House of Photography, the Museum am Rothenbaum – Kulturen und Künste der Welt, the Hall for Contemporary Art and the Falckenberg Collection and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg.
Together, these exhibitions structure a star-shaped grouping of interrelated topics and exploratory reflections that are woven into the texture of each institution.
