Tesfaye Bekele, a contemporary African artist of great singularity, is set to present his captivating work in an exhibition entitled “Energy Circles” at the prestigious Addis Ababa gallery. From May 21 to July 22, 2023, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of this artist, whose artistic foundations are based on nostalgia and childhood memories. Born in 1982 and based in Addis Ababa, Tesfaye Bekele explores order within complex systems, adopting a contemplative approach that examines his personal relationship with time and space.
Trained at Addis Ababa University’s School of Fine Arts and Design, known as the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, Tesfaye Bekele graduated in Art Education in 2010. Today, he holds a faculty position at the university while actively pursuing his artistic career. His work continues to be exhibited in Ethiopia and abroad, testifying to his unwavering passion for art.
Tesfaye Bekele‘s artistic approach is based on an in-depth study of various aspects of the physical world, with a constant concern to enrich and perfect his artistic technique. This analytical methodology is evident in the smallest details of his creations, where the conflict and struggle inherent in his artistic process are clearly perceptible.
In his compositions, Tesfaye Bekele places his canvas on the ground, creating imaginary spaces where he places the body. His understanding of the structure of the human organism, nourished by his studies in biology and physiology, provides the basis for his artworks. These are presented as an intuitive exploration of complex networks of synapses, muscles and bones, intertwined in a multitude of lines and colors applied by paint drips, drops and scrapes. The lines and shapes that unfold on his canvases are the fruit of Tesfaye Bekele’s ardent desire to transcend limits and find fulfillment in the freedoms offered by artistic creation.
Tesfaye Bekele stands out for her unique, introspective artistic approach. His exhibition “Energy Circles” at the Addis Ababa Gallery promises to offer visitors an experience rich in emotion and reflection, highlighting his exceptional talent and his exploration of the relationship between man, time and space.
