The Galerie Cécile Fakhoury presents in its space in Dakar “J’aimerais me voir dans tes yeux“, the most memorable exhibition of Rachel Marsil.
Through “J’aimerais me voir dans tes yeux“, the artist plunges us into a personal and luminous universe at the border of memories and dreams.
At first, Rachel Marsil immerses herself in her family photos; each scene is an opportunity to return to a memory, a day before the psyche. The varieties, but extraordinary and warm, form a string starting from one work and then another, making each material a second in a non-existent history.
Some elements preserve us in any case from the bet of pure and simple onirism, notably the objects that Rachel Marsil adds to her works.
Rachel Marsil approaches them in the same way as the characters, making them the heroes of the visual narrative by their own doing. The objects carry a sensitive and commemorative weight. They solidify the minutes of feelings experienced by Rachel Marsil and at the same time send us back to our comfortable circle reflecting on our own Proust’s madeleine and our own neglect.
Therefore, the two clay vessels made in team with artist Esther Hien are in a way repositories of memory.
The research on embroidery and fabric work is an opportunity for Rachel Marsil to address the subject of memory through the transmission of information and the safeguarding of a discrete know-how. It is also a precious opportunity to speak about the plural poetics of connection that binds individuals, items and places together in an indestructible way.
The exhibition “J’aimerais me voir dans tes yeux” is open until November 25, 2022 at the Galerie Cécile Fakhoury in Dakar, Senegal.
