Painter and author, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye is well known for her confusing oil paintings of imaginary characters. She creates non-literal artworks from an assortment of sources, while using characters that possess intentionally confusing, immortal and often conceptual settings.
Working with oil paint on material fabrics or coarse linen, she has created her own pictorial language. The characters in her paintings are both natural and secretive, as each of her works is made from a chronicle of found images and her own creative mind, raising questions of personality and representation.
