For the first time, is hosted until August 31, 2021, an exhibition exclusively Afro-female at the London gallery HOFA through « Mother of Mankind ». This exhibition presents the art of 16 black women who give to see a very particular project that highlights the singular vision. Each of the artists brings an impression while exposing an individual experience and visual account on the issues of gender, sexuality, identity, family or beauty.
They offer through the exhibition « Mother of Mankind » different meanings of the individual of color by taking into account another methodology and an imaginative commitment to contemporary art. An approach for them to offer an imaginative invitation to visitors between authenticity and reflection, structure and surface, strength and weakness while taking into account other space and role.
Moving away from the exchange of a regularizing femininity, Mother of Mankind focuses on the particular insight of Black people, presenting artists whose development of femininity is conceptualized in its application to women in Africa and its diaspora. Hailing from countries ranging from Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa to Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, these artists deliberately reject and rethink the usual norms of excellence, discernment, and representation, reclaiming control of their histories and foregrounding the knowledge and character of Black women. Artists from around the globe such as Jamilla Okubo, Emma Prempeh, Ekene Maduka, Adebunmi Gbadebo, Ayobola Kekere-Ekun, Mookho Ntho, Cece Phillips, Alexandria Couch, Sola Olulode, Marcellina Akpojotor, Muofhe Manavhela, Cinthia Sifa Mulanga, Damilola Onosowbo Marcus, Tobi Chinaza Agbor, Alexandra Falade, Sophia Oshodin, Bria Fernandes, Dimakatso Mathopa, curated by Adora Mba of ADA Contemporary Gallery in Accra.
