Ethiopian contemporary artist Giramchew Getnet presents “IN BETWEEN” at Addis Fine Art

Until October 01, 2022, London’s Addis Fine Art presents the leading European independent exhibition by German-based figurative painter Girmachew Getnet. Through his work entitled, “IN BETWEEN“, he attempts to capture the wholeness of lived vision.

His creations are laden with human figures, communicated in a variety of forms and colors as vibrant as they are grotesque, to pay homage to the variety of our viewpoints, foundations and narratives. Like the German Expressionist painters of the mid-20th century, color is of paramount, if not spiritual, importance to Getnet Girmachew. The deep, brilliant yellow that sprouts from the sunflowers in his “Blossoming Mind” series is an image of essentiality and energy that intoxicates and captures the viewer’s gaze.

The objects themselves also carry representational weight: sunflowers are often planted by farmers to purify polluted soil, as they can ingest poisons and store them at cellular level. This reflects the artist’s confidence in the soothing, restorative power of the art-making process.
