The richness of black skin is a precious legacy, conveying African identity and enabling proud self-assertion throughout the world. However, in societies still steeped in prejudice and racism, this same skin can become the breeding ground for many ills. With a view to sharing her frustration and highlighting the many challenges facing black women in the West, Delali Amegah offers a poignant look through the artistic lens of “Afropean Girl”. From July 19 to 20, this artistic nectar will take over the walls of Berlin’s Zimmer48 gallery, offering an unforgettable visual and emotional experience.

Based between Berlin and Luxembourg, Delali Amegah is a multi-talented, multi-disciplinary artist: visual artist, filmmaker, poet and cultural writer. From a mosaic lineage blending Togolese, Beninese, West Indian and French roots, this profound diversity informs her artistic approach, which focuses on the quest for acceptance and recognition within European societies. With touching sincerity, she shares: “Growing up in predominantly white spaces, I often felt invisible and misunderstood. AFROPEAN GIRL is my way of reclaiming my story. This project is dedicated to all black women who continue to fight for their place in the world, and to those who seek to understand our journey.

Through a subtle fusion of her art, writing and rich cultural heritage, Delali Amegah aspires to breathe new life into the global black cultural scene. Her captivating photographic exhibition, entitled “Afropean Girl”, perfectly embodies this committed artistic vision. Through a series of powerful photographic works, this contemporary artist invites the public to plunge into an overwhelming visual exploration, using visual narrative as a formidable instrument of liberation and representation for black women of the diaspora evolving in spaces influenced by white dominance.

Driven by a deep personal involvement, Delali Amegah emotionally dedicates “Afropean Girl” to all black women who persist in their quest for legitimate recognition in this complex world, and to those who aspire to unravel the mysteries of these women’s journeys within a contemporary society riven by prejudice.

This remarkable exhibition was made possible thanks to the invaluable support of VIA Regional Berlin/Brandenburg, the specialized external coordinating body of the Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District Partnership for Democracy. The opening of “Afropean Girl” is scheduled for July 19 at 6.30pm, promising an event of great emotional and artistic intensity.
