“Art Paris” celebrates its 25th anniversary from March 30 to April 2, 2023 at the Grand Palais. This commemorative edition brings together 133 galleries from 25 nations around the world.
Created in 1999, under the impetus of Julien and Valentine Lecêtre and its general curator Guillaume Piens, “Art Paris” has become the unmissable springtime event that promotes, initiates and investigates modern and contemporary art.
Cosmopolitan, “Art Paris” has highlighted many foreign scenes, at the same time, it focuses on supporting the French scene and, as of 2018, has linked the emotional, verifiable and fundamental perspective of an exhibition curator with the choice of explicit projects of artists proposed by the participants on a characterized subject and linked to a theme related to a writing work presenting their work.
The coronavirus pandemic marked a decisive moment in the history of the fair: the main post-containment event to be held in September 2020, “Art Paris” was the main occasion to inaugurate the Grand Palais Éphémère at the Champ-de-Mars. A half-year later, it was the first fair to develop an eco-design approach for the life cycle review.
Finally, the “Art Paris” fair for its 25 years of commemoration has taken an interest in subjects that cross our society and the field of contemporary creation, all decisions that reinforce the creativity of this great spring event and give it an extraordinary place.

The 2023 selection: a reloaded and herculean list
In the continuity of its previous editions, the 2023 selection continues the vertical pattern of the fair, with a renewal of 43 new galleries compared to 2022 and the presence of important galleries that have established themselves in the fair.
The Almine Rech gallery will be back alongside the galleries Continua, Lelong and Co, Kamel Mennour, Perrotin, Templon and Nathalie Obadia.
With more than 60% of exhibitors from France and 40% from abroad, this enthusiasm for the fair allows us to appreciate the richness of French galleries: from the big names in art, to the support of younger galleries.
We note the presence again of the galleries Derouillon, Dina Vierny, Catherine Putman, Maria Lund, Anne-Sarah Benichou while Maia Muller signs its first edition.
On the foreign side, the list of countries is growing with the interest galleries of AMS from Chile, the Afriart gallery from Uganda, the Gaep gallery from Romania and the Saleh Barakat Exhibition gallery from Lebanon.
Turkey is also represented this year by the galleries Martch Art Project and The Pill, Morocco with Comptoir des Mines and Atelier 21, Korea with H.A.N. Gallery, Gallery Woong, Simon Gallery and 313 Art Project.
We note the arrival of the galleries A Palazzo, Baronian, Sébastien Bertrand, HdM Gallery, Francesca Minini, Poggiali, Nosbaum Reding, Ditesheim, Zlotowski, Repetto, Retelet.
The same goes for photography with the first participations of Bigaignon and Fisheye Gallery, as well as the arrival of Camera Obscura.

Art Paris 2023: two themes around the issues of commitment and exile and many events
Art & Commitment
Under the direction of Marc Donnadieu, curator, “Art & Engagement” transmits its vision of the French scene through the eyes of 20 artists of various ages presented by the participating galleries.
This selection studies the vision of artists such as Paz Corona, Sepand Danesh, Damien Deroubaix, Angèle Etoundi Assamba, Jacques Grinberg, Laura Henno, Alain Josseau, Kubra Khademi, Randa Marou, Agathe May, Hassan Musa, Prune Nourry, Agathe Pitié, Rakajoo, Paul Rebeyrolle, Apolonia Sokol, Nancy Spero, Hervé Télémaque, Thu-Van Tran, Duncan Wylie, on the idea of responsibility, whether towards art and the work itself or towards the world, its experiences or its recent developments.
A step for the curator Marc Donnadieu to push us to a liberation, but also to understand this responsibility of artists and their works in front of the blur that darkens the sky of our today.
The Exile: dispossessions and resistances
“Exile: dispossessions and resistances“, revealed by Amanda Abi Khalil, curator and founder of the Temporary Art Platform in Beirut, which features 18 artists from around the world whose works have issues related to exile, and, selected from the participating galleries.
Exile, whether chosen or forced, is constantly endured and emphasizes the connections to places and individuals from which one feels confiscated and transforms the accumulation of an elsewhere into a state of endurance. The artists Majd Abdel Hamid, Anas Albraehe, Iván Argote, Taysir Batniji, Roberto Cabot, Leyla Cardenas, Nabil el Makhlou, Leylâ Gediz, Tirhad Hashemi, Zarina Hashmi, Aung Ko, Nge Lay, Boris Mikhailov, Myriam Mihindou, Estefania Peña el Loaiza, Laure Prouvost, Christine Safa, José Ángel Vincench have brought their points of view and their glances on this context of transitory pressures exacerbated by wars, financial and climatic emergencies, among others. But also on the imaginative practices on cordiality, the relationship with the neighbor or the sensation of particularity.
