“Side by Side” – a unique art exhibition at The Sweet Side of Thingz, Windhoek of Namibia until April 15, 2023.
The Sweet Side of Thingz, located in downtown Windhoek, is currently home to the “Side by Side” exhibition, featuring the works of Namafu Amutse and Candice Mouton.
This exhibition, which was first presented in February 2023, was a great success and is back for a second installation in a different location. Paintings and photographs by the two young self-taught artists hang on the walls of the spacious and airy café, telling a unique story in a new environment.
The concept of the ‘Side by Side” exhibition series is juxtaposition, allowing the works of two artists to be placed side by side to create a dialogue that creates a space for unique interpretations. This exhibition is the first in the “Side by Side” 2023 series organized by StArt Art Gallery. The exhibition presents intimate moments related to childhood through portraiture, captured through Namafu Amutse‘s digital photographs and Candice Mouton‘s paintings and illustrations.
Although the two artists use very different mediums, they share a similar impetus for their work presented in this exhibition. Namafu Amutse works primarily in the digital realm, creating photographs and videos, while Candice Mouton is a painter and illustrator. Their works presented together create a unique dialogue and show the diversity of Namibian contemporary art.
On April 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., StArt Art Gallery invites the public to an art/doughnut encounter, where a doughnut inspired by the exhibition can be purchased and enjoyed. This free event will also be an opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their work. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to discover the creativity and talent of two young Namibian.
This exhibition is an enriching experience for art lovers and sweet tooths. It presents an interesting juxtaposition of works by two artists who share a similar drive for their work despite using very different mediums. This is a must-see exhibition for those interested in contemporary Namibian art and new creative voices in the art world.
