African galleries and contemporary artists are once again thrilling the global art scene with the ninth edition of Also Known As Africa (AKAA). As France’s first and foremost contemporary art fair dedicated to Africa, AKAA embodies the richness and diversity of the continent, transcending borders and resonating creative voices from the four corners of the globe. From October 18 to 20, the Carreau du Temple will be transformed into a vibrant space where AKAA 2024 will unveil new facets of the African creative universe. This year’s event will particularly highlight cultural exchanges between Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean, illustrating the full splendor of the ultramarine scene.
Today, AKAA has become an essential part of autumn’s Paris Art Week, showcasing African art scenes, diasporas and Afro-descendant artists. It’s an invaluable opportunity to discover the works of creators who appropriate art through the prism of the dark continent. AKAA 2024 promises to be as grandiose as previous editions, under the watchful eye of a prestigious jury comprising Bénédicte Alliot, General Director of the Cité des Arts in Paris; Ifeoma Dike, psychologist, consultant, curator and activist; Anne de Villepoix, Director of Anne de Villepoix Gallery; and Victoria Mann, Founder and Executive Director of AKAA. These renowned experts on the international art scene will guide this celebration of African creativity and artistic expression.
