As part of the first edition of the Cotonou Gallery Weekend, SEPTIEME Gallery announces the opening of its second space in Cotonou, this September 30, 2022,
SEPTIEME Gallery is a contemporary art gallery created by Julie Banâtre and Léa Perier Loko that transmits a cosmopolitan vision, scrutinizing the place of life and investigating the nuances of the world. This space evokes the desire upset discernments and work in responsibility, to make its framework a statement of in-between.
Established in 2019 in the seventh arrondissement of Paris, SEPTIEME Gallery has taken on a huge energy where it is establishing itself as a young, dynamic and cosmopolitan gallery. It works for a global impact and a deep coordination on the world art market, participating in fairs as varied in this art world.
Located in Paris in a Haussmannian setting, this gallery opens its second space on the African continent to offer exhibitions in another configuration in the West African space to push the boundaries of contemporary art and contribute to the development of new strongholds.
Benin, unnoticed by the art world, with its recent exhibition « Art du Bénin d’hier et d’aujourd’hui, de la restitution à la révélation : trésors royaux et art contemporain du Bénin » at the Palace of the Republic attracts an ostensible direction of pioneer country of contemporary African art. A clear justification for the decision of Cotonou as the place of establishment of this new space located at the edge of the new Trade of Labor tar in the area of Gbegamey, before the new market and a few meters from the future Museum of Contemporary Art of the city of Cotonou. SEPTIEME Gallery, open to the neighborhood thanks to a glass roof discovering the space from the outside, wants to be a perennial piece of its region and wraps itself around an organization of association with an offbeat public in this known and cadenced neighborhood, a true point of connection between a hyper-current Cotonou turned towards the future and a more known Cotonou dedicated to its experiences, its way of life and its customs.
The space will open its doors on September 30, 2022 with its most memorable exhibition “AVIVÔ“, which will present the creations of Joël Degbo, Didier Viodé, Gregory Olympio, joined by Dominique Zinkpè for a unique installation.
Between Cotonou and Paris, SEPTIEME Gallery has chosen to draw an extension, a story that connects Paris to Cotonou, without adding another layer of fracture. This space seeks to define another border, to add a square to the contemporary framework of Africa.
