LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery opens to the youth, novelty and variety of the continent with the exhibition « Découvertes »

LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery presents « Découvertes », its third vacation exhibition that opens a window on the young creation of the African continent until August 28, 2021. This group exhibition brings together artists Franck Ezan, Bara Sketchbook, Cedric Tchinan, Nampemanla, Obodjé and Z The Rat, from different backgrounds and discovered by the Gallery during the year.

The exhibition « Découvertes » is the framework of birth and development of connections that are established between the works and the visitor, between the artists whose worlds meet, cross and collide to introduce a deployment of stories and offer a human encounter in the making.  

The exhibition « Découvertes » exchanges the comfort of a doubtful future through art. Thus, the spectator in front of a work finds a part of the artists between stylistic decisions or not, methodology, strategy that characterize them according to the time. For the visitor, each work is a challenge to explore, to open, to approach.

The worlds of the artists in the « Découvertes » exhibition

Nampémanla, enthusiastic about an innovative approach, decided to scrutinize the connection between people and the development of the world as an appearance to explore the large number of methods of expression available to him. After spending 10 years in advertising, he chose to devote himself entirely to art. The result is an evolution in sustainable development floating around a subject that is itself protean.

Obodjé proposes a raw style. His art, rooted in myths, legends and practices is not hindered by the possibilities of scholarship. Self-taught, he turns himself into a belt, connecting a world populated by ancestors and spirits to ours, which generally will not remember them. His style is free from the impacts of the skillful or scholastic reference. The type of his characters breaks down in the convocation of the thickness of the scenes, the forests, the water, the evening… Obodjé thus becomes the messenger of a world that is disappearing, but whose deep humanistic qualities he hopes to share.

Bara Sketchbook uses the codes of impressionism and neo-expressionism, instrumentalizes them to tell stories of people, networks, ages and plays with the verse of colors to implant his characters with feelings and sensations.

Cédric Tchinan, Franck Ezan‘s twin brother, has always been interested in the world in motion and the collaborations between humans. As far as he is concerned, the arabesque painted line addresses the delicate link that binds us to each other. His work questions our relationships with others and the very substance of life in the journey to happiness. Innocence, verse and delicacy run through his works.  

Franck Ezan was born in the Ivory Coast and lived his childhood in an orphanage like his twin brother. His relationship with others, his deep tortures and especially his relationship with his brother have an impact on his artistic methodology. He wishes to rethink the world in his own way, to sublimate it, so he creates a charming universe, where the liberality of tones and structures takes a particular path and presents his idyllic person to his works. His objective is to sublimate, to re-enchant a world anaesthetized by uncertainty and frightened by distinction.

Z the Rat chooses an exceptionally close approach. She confides her perspectives, her most salient pleasures and her deepest distresses, placing herself in settings each more beautiful and telling than the next, exposing facial and postural expressions. Through her work, she explores the subject of emotional well-being and her experience as a woman of color.

While each of the works in the « Découvertes » exhibition can be seen as a representation of each of the artists, it suggests to the viewer a set of experiences, a kind of connection that is established between the works and the viewer, between the artists whose worlds meet, converge and collide to introduce an exhibition of abnormal stories to provide a visual and enriching experience.
