Special events at ART X Lagos
In addition to showcasing what these various galleries and their artists have to offer, ART X Lagos 2021 will offer attendees a series of lectures exploring themes relevant to the state and evolution of contemporary art in Africa, as well as a platform for expression and experimentation for young creators from Africa that merges music and visual art and projects that will include an exploration of NFT art on the continent.
This year’s program will offer visitors to the fair an invitation to reflect on the contemporary challenges facing Africa, and a call to consider the continent’s future in the art world.
It will also present Future Africa, a specialized digital installation featuring emerging African artists working in cutting-edge media with the aim of presenting a rebalanced image of Africa and demystifying the continent’s contemporary aspirations, lifestyles and ways of thinking in order to tell real stories.
The Access Bank ART X competition also returns after the hiatus due to the Coronavirus.
Documentary photographer Etinosa Yvonne, winner of the 2019 Access Bank ART X Award, will begin a three-month residency at Gasworks in London to produce work for a one-off independent exhibition at the fair in November.
Applications for the 2021 Access Bank ART X Award will open in a few weeks on the ART X Lagos website.
