Open until July 04, 2022 at Mariane Ibrahim‘s Paris gallery, « Inside Out » is artist Amoako Boafo‘s first exhibition in Europe.

In this exhibition, each performance is the site of a delicate creative spirit, Amoako Boafo seeks to invigorate her inner world by painting visual characters that interpret her most important goals of play, recreation, calm, and essentially the option of being-existing as one sees or wishes to see oneself.

His hands are his wonderful instrument, as he truly feels each artistic creation as he makes it. A deep tactile cycle interfaces him personally with his material. Each painting is touched by Amoako Boafo and in this way comes into contact with him.

« Inside Out » follows the global pandemic that asks us to turn inward and gives us new meaning. How would each of us decide to connect in a distinct way with the world at large and what minutes have we underestimated with our general environment?

Painting and tennis are two places Amoako Boafo goes to calm her brain.

« Inside Out » is a complex and polysemous term that best conveys being totally renewed, having an intimate knowledge of something or playing on the court.

Each of these transcriptions requires another point, another approach or another way of seeing. It involves jumping in and shifting the gaze of the observer or, because of tennis, crushing the opponent. What is the artist trying to be or do from the back to the front ?

The representation of the body is an outlet of the mind for the Ghanaian artist, the development by which he feels and praises his feelings while he makes the material a phase for the most intriguing individuals, companions, and even strangers who cross his gaze. These are images of strength and secrecy that has yet to be explored. The way we experience what is beyond us is a reflection of what we carry within us.

Far from being merely illustrative and more reflective of the subjects and their inner lives, Amoako Boafo partners with artist Aja Monet to accompany each work with personalized poems.
