African street art, especially murals, is becoming increasingly popular and attractive to international artists. On May 3, 2023, Eduardo Kobra inaugurated a 520 square meter mural in Cotonou as part of his project entitled “Coexistence”.

The mural, which is located on the walls of the former Hotel du Port, depicts twelve people, each representing a different religion and a department of Benin, all facing the sky, holding hands. The artist’s message is clear: we can all live together in harmony, regardless of our religion or lack thereof. The mural is part of Eduardo Kobra‘s “Coexistence” project, which aims to promote understanding, respect and love between different religions and different members of society.

This mural is an impressive addition to the other murals already painted on the four-kilometer long wall by local and international artists. Indeed, Cotonou’s port wall is becoming the longest graffiti wall in the world, with giant, multi-colored murals that tell the story of the city.

Eduardo Kobra is known for his large-scale murals and iconic works in cities around the world, such as New York, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires. His largest work to date is a mural called “Etnias,” which spans over 2,000 square meters, making it the largest graffiti mural in the world. In 2017, he broke his own record with a work in homage to Chocolate on a 5,742 square meter wall in the São Paulo metropolitan area.

Eduardo Kobra’s mural in Cotonou is a further demonstration of his talent and creativity. It is also a testimony of his commitment to the promotion of peace, understanding and respect between different cultures, religions and people.
With a surface area of over 500 square meters, it is hard to miss and represents a beautiful addition to the city’s mural collection.
