On June 7, 2023, in line with expectations, the members of the jury announced the name of the Togolese artist who had captivated the public with his or her creations and artistic talent. Among the five finalists selected, the winner of this year’s Prix Ellipse 2023 is none other than multidisciplinary artist RAS SANKARA. His unique ability to use contemporary African art as a means of expression and communication set him significantly apart from his competitors.

The Togolese artist, known as Kossi Aféli Agboka, seeks to engage the public by exhibiting his works in the streets, arousing the curiosity of spectators around the various themes addressed by his art installations. Driven by a strong spirit of independence, freedom and humanity, Kossi Aféli Agboka transmits particular emotions to spectators through his body and his artistic performances, calling for a general awareness of contemporary realities.

Immersed in a deep artistic universe since childhood, RAS SANKARA continues his evolution within the wider sphere of contemporary African art by winning the Prix Ellipse 2023. As winner of the Prix Ellipse 2023 competition, our talented artist benefits from significant advantages that will enable him to make even greater strides on the world art scene.

As part of the program offered to the lucky winner of the Prix Ellipse contemporary art program, RAS SANKARA will benefit from the following elements:

  • A double-page spread dedicated exclusively to the presentation of his work in an art book.
  • Personalized professional support to help him develop his artistic career.
  • An exhibition on the Ellipse Art Projects stand at the AKAA – Also Known As Africa fair from October 20 to 22, 2023, a production grant according to the artist’s project and more.
  • A communications campaign to promote the artist’s work and raise its profile.

In addition, it should be noted that artist RAS SANKARA is preparing a unique exhibition that deserves to be followed closely next October. This event will focus on performance art, and will tie in with the theme of this year’s Prix Ellipse 2023, entitled “dreamy memories“.
